How to choose: Count the steps in your workflow and how often it runs: the same automation can use very different amounts of tasks, credits or executions depending on the platform. Self-hosting n8n removes execution limits but adds server upkeep.

Common questions about workflow automation

How do Zapier, Make and n8n charge differently?

Zapier bills per task (each action step in a Zap), Make bills per credit (each module that runs in a scenario), and n8n bills per workflow execution on its cloud plans. The same automation can cost very different amounts on each, so estimate your monthly volume before choosing.

Is n8n really free?

The self-hosted Community Edition is free software with no execution limits, but you pay for the server it runs on and you maintain it yourself. n8n's managed cloud plans are paid.
